Considering the fact that I only started PittsburghPizza in July of this year, I ate A LOT of pizza in 2017! The only way I could possibly pick out my favorites was by categorizing them…without further ado:
Tried and True
Name someone who doesn’t love Mineo’s…I’ll wait.
Squirrel Hill gets all the pizza glory what with Aiello’s and Mineo’s, but just a stone’s throw away in Greenfield is Rialto Pizza – SO AMAZING. Lots of specialty pizzas and speedy delivery, too!
Maybe not the best in the navigation department, but I dig their overall vibe. Pizza is bomb too, if you ever find yourself in Ross Twp!
Best Buffalo Chicken Pizza
Something about the cheese, their chewy crust, the ranch…it just blows all the other buff chick pizzas out of the water. They specialize in chicken too, obviously, so it definitely helps that the generous helping of buffalo chicken is always PERFECTION.
Best Sicilian Pizza
All the way out in Wexford, but I had to include this on the list. It’s been my favorite since I was, like, 3 years old. GOOOOOO.
I’m super sad that Pizza Hut’s Ultimate Cheesy Crust Pizza (pictured) is only available until January 1, but I’m sure this won’t be the last we see of it. Pizza Hut is the go-to chain spot, IMO! Sorry @Dominos, I love you too…just not quite as much.
Best Classic Cheese Pizza
In November, Fiori’s was narrowly beat out by Vincent’s Pizza Park as winner of The Incline’s Ultimate Pittsburgh Pizza Champion, but I gotta say, Fiori’s just resonates with me more…It’s their sauce and ~dat cheese stretch~ (pictured above), I think.
Best Artisan Pie
Fig jam, goat cheese, truffle oil, arugula…need I say more? I’m all about the Porch’s pizza.
THESE GLORIOUS SLICES ARE $1.99 EACH.
Best Drunk Pizza
Ayyyyy, I mean, all pizza makes great drunk pizza, but something about Gennaro’s at 3AM on a Friday…
My Completely Subjective Personal Favorite Pizza Discovery of 2017…
My favorite discovery this year was Rockaway Pizzeria in White Oak! They’re ahead of the curve in PGH with many trendy pizzas that you’d find in NYC, like their artichoke, vodka margherita, and upside down Sicilian. Their pies only come in one size – 18″ with 8 huge slices. They’re pick up only and their shop is a TINY hole-in-the-wall on Lincoln Way. Get there ASAP!
Can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store!
