Did I drive 40 minutes out of my way just to try this place? Did I buy 2 larges and eat 5 slices? Yep. Yeah.
Vincent’s Pizza Park was recently named the Ultimate Pittsburgh Pizza Champion by The Incline.
The contest was completely based on votes from Pittsburghers, and was an intense 7-week bracket showdown. I had been wanting to try this pizza for a while, and finally “bit the bullet” and drove out to North Braddock, the complete opposite direction of my way home after work.
This pizza was hardcore. While personally, I think I would’ve preferred a bit more sauce, the crust is INSANE. So doughy and chewy and perfect. The cheese is thick – a good quarter to half inch I’d say! This place has been around for 65 years. They’re obviously doing something right.
Apparently, in 1949, Vincent and his wife drove west to San Francisco with his wife and $7 with one mission: learn to make pizza. His uncle had a shop there, so he learned, drove back home to Rankin, and opened his shop in North Braddock with a loan of $80. The woman who cashed me out and helped me carry my two giant pizzas to my car was actually his granddaughter!
Give this Pittsburgh classic a try – and don’t forget your $! It’s cash only!
