I was in Latrobe for work last Thursday, and knew I HAD to stop at Jioio’s on my way home! I’ve had SO. MANY. PEOPLE tell me that this is their favorite pizza of all time. I stopped at the Greensburg location on Carbon Road, but there’s one in Latrobe as well.
Their pizza is definitely unique – it has a thin, flakey, sweet, pastry-like crust. Their sauce is outstanding and their cheese is layered on thick. I’m a fan, but it’s not my personal preference in pizza. In other words, this isn’t a pizza I’ll crave and think about for days to come, but I can see what the hype is about. It really is a new pizza experience!
BUT THE BEST PART OF THE STORY IS YET TO COME.
While I was waiting for my pie to be ready, I ran into the owner of Pizza Taglio, Tony! I had never met him before, but recognized him from Instagram, and introduced myself. He follows and frequently tags PittsburghPizza so was also surprised at the insane coincidence. As it turns out, he was on his 4th pizza shop stop of the day with a big group of friends – a pizza crawl, if you will, which is an idea I will definitely steal. It was exciting to have a mutual Instagram appreciation turn into a real life interaction.
